La Banana y Manuela

My most recent work is a shoot titled: “La Banana y Manuela.” The history of Banana plantations has its ties with the abuse of Latin American soil as the U.S. planted bananas in Guatemala and the profits went only to the U.S. The photographs allude to this as it contains bananas and the color yellow. But, the central figure in the photographs is a woman named Manuela, a strong and confident Latin American. Latin American women have to constantly overcome abuse as “machismo” or male dominance is still imposed. As she modeled for me, instead of being in a submissive position, she is posing in a confident manner. Showing that as a Latin American and a woman, she could be powerful.
